Beginning Again

365 days ago, around this time, I was sitting in a meeting that would change my life. I should have known, but I guess I was in denial up until I walked in and saw our HR manager sitting there with A4 brown envelopes. Envelopes of that size and that colour never, ever have good news inside them. My team and I were told that the December issue of seventeen would be our last and at the end of 2013, seventeen would be no more. My dream job was over, my relationship was on the brink of breaking up and I came unmoored from life as I knew it.

The Week That Was

15019117_dMtP3RJh_c_largeIt’s not about how often you fall, it’s about how often you get up. Or something equally cheesy. I’ve been battling with life the past few months, well, years I guess. I got into a rut, then fell into a well guarded by trolls of Doom and Gloom when my job and relationship ended, and have been trying to climb out ever since. Sometimes I think I’m getting pretty far up the ladder, only to realise a few weeks on that I’ve taken a tumble and fallen back. But this week, which has been pretty shit in some aspects, has had some really good moments, which make me feel like getting up and trying to climb the ladder again.

The Week That Was

summerIt’s been a typical Cape Town spring week: hot, cold, rain, hot, windy, sweltering. But there’s something about summer that always makes me happy (even when I’m bitching about the heat). I guess it’s all that light. I’d never do well up North where it’s dark for so much of the time. Even our winters aren’t that bad and the gloom makes me sad.

But it’s been a pretty beautiful week down South.
